Common questions
How do I update Hominis?
Hominis downloads updates in the background and applies them the next time you restart it. To check now, open Settings → About Hominis and choose Check for updates.
Which version do I have?
Open Settings → About Hominis. The version number is a date: 26.09.18 means 18 September 2026.
Can I use my Firefox extensions?
Yes. Hominis is built on Firefox, so extensions from addons.mozilla.org work. Their buttons appear on each tile’s header, and extensions pause in private sessions.
What’s the difference between a workspace and an identity?
A workspace is one canvas: its tiles, where they sit and how big they are. An identity is a separate set of cookies, so you stay signed in to different accounts. Several workspaces can share one identity.
Does anything from a private session stay on my Mac?
No. Tiles, history and downloads list entries from a private session are kept in memory only and discarded when you end the session. Files you download stay in your Downloads folder.
How do I take my data with me?
Open Settings → General and choose Export all data. Hominis saves workspaces, tiles, notes, sketches, bookmarks and history in open formats in one .zip file. Nothing is uploaded.
How do I turn off the AI features?
They stay off until you add your own API key in Settings → Applets. Removing the key turns all of them off again, and the applets and chat conversations they generated can be deleted from the same place. A coming update adds one switch for all of them and one for each feature, so you can keep some on and others off. They never run in a private session.
Does Hominis run on Windows or Linux?
Not yet. Windows and Linux (Flatpak) versions follow soon. Today Hominis needs a Mac with Apple silicon.
